Recycle some old Christmas decorations by making them the focal point in your very own snow globes! Use Micador Modelling Clay to create the perfect Christmas scene.

 What you need:

  • Jar (cleaned with a leak proof lid)
  • Micador Modeling Clay
  • Micador Modelling Tools
  • Christmas Figurines (try recycling old baubles by cutting off the string)
  • Glitter
  • Water
  • Glycerine (can be found in the medical part of the supermarket or clear corn syrup)

Cleaning: to clean your jar out and remove your sticky label, try using eucalyptus oil and a cotton ball to remove the sticky residue and then rinse under soapy water. If it isn’t coming off that easily, try using a scrubbing brush as well.

Lids: if you can, you can spray paint the lid to make it a more festive colour, or secure a piece of ribbon around it.

Step 1: Make your scene

On the lid, use the modelling clay to make a platform for your figurine to stand on, also use it to secure your figurine too. Try to make it sit within the lid so that it can still screw onto the jar and will still allow it to be waterproof.

Step 2: Fill your Jar

Fill your jar up half way with water (be sure to do this over a sink) and add one spoon of glycerine and a spoon of glitter and fill the rest with water to about 90% capacity. Stir it all together – the glitter will sit up the top.

Step 3: Secure the lid!

Putting your lid on (your figurine will go upside down) secure it as tight as you can. Flip the jar back over and do a little shake to test for leaks (do this over a sink!) If all is well, you have a snow globe!
