Get creative and decorate the house this Valentine's Day with these colourful soft pastel hanging hearts!
You Will Need:
- Micador For Artists Rains Watercolour Paper, A3
- Micador For Artists Soft Pastels, 24pk
- Graphite pencil
- Cotton buds
- White acrylic paint
- Plain paper
Step 1: Cut!
Cut out some different sized love hearts from a piece of paper. We used scrap paper for this step but you can use printer paper instead. These hearts will be used as a stencil.
Step 2: Blend!
Place a stencil over the watercolour paper and apply dots of different colours around the edges using the soft pastels. Use a cotton bud to spread these dots of colour into the middle of the heart. It’s best to use a clean bud for each different colour so as not to mix the colours. Repeat this until you have enough hearts to hang – we created 9 – then cut out each heart. You can also spray the hearts with fixative to stop the pastel from transferring.
Step 3: Paint!
Paint your stick using white acrylic paint and allow to dry. Attach the string to the stick at either end by wrapping it a few times and then tying a knot. This piece of string will be used to hang the stick onto a hook and the hearts will dangle below.

Step 4: Attach!
Attach 3 more pieces of string to your stick that will hang downwards. Poke two holes in each heart piece – one at the top and one at the bottom – and thread the string through. Repeat this for each of the heart pieces. Once all the hearts are threaded, tie a knot at the end of the string and fray the ends. Time to put your hanging hearts on display!
