Technique 1: Wet on Wet!

Wet the page using your brush. Then load your brush with more water and saturate with colour. As you paint watch the colour move around in the water. Move your paper around to get colours to move across the page. The wet on wet technique achieves an unpredictable and organic pattern across the page.

Technique 2: Wet on Dry!

For this step, leave your paper dry and load up your brush with water. Grab some colour and start painting. This technique creates even coverage across the page and is easier to control and blend.

Technique 3: Dry on Wet!

Paint water onto your paper and then dry your brush off. Leave just enough water on your brush to get the pigment of the watercolours. While you paint, notice how the paint becomes less opaque and leaves more brushstrokes.

Technique 4: Dry on Dry!

For this step, once again wet your brush just enough so that the brush collects pigment. Paint onto your dry paper. Since there is less water, the paint doesn’t flow smoothly onto the paper, however it does creates an interesting texture.
