• White is the most-used mixing colour in any acrylic palette – it goes into virtually every pastel tone and tint mix, lightens other colours for highlights and gradients, and covers darker grounds cleanly when used at full strength

• Also useful for priming surfaces or adding a thin white glaze over finished work for a soft atmospheric effect

Water-based acrylic paint with satin finish. Permanent and water resistant when dry. Wash brushes in water before paint sets.

Does white acrylic cover dark colours well?

• Yes – with sufficient pigment loading, white acrylic covers dark colours in one or two coats. Titanium white (an opaque white pigment) gives better coverage than zinc white.

Can I use white as a primer?

• White acrylic can serve as a basic primer on paper and card. For canvas, a proper gesso primer gives better adhesion and tooth. However, a thin white acrylic undercoat is acceptable for light classroom painting purposes.

Does white dry to a satin or matte finish?
