Encourage children to work on their fine motor skills with this fun weaving activity.

Younger children will need an adult to supervise when cutting and may need help with weaving.

You will need:

  • A piece of recycled cardboard (we used a Micador box)

  • Micador jR. Safe Scissors

  • PVA Glue

  • Yarn (3 even lengths, we used approximately 1m per colour)

  • Craft Stick

Step 1: Construct your loom!

Start by making 2cm snips into each end of the cardboard. Make the snips approximately 1cm apart. Using PVA, glue down a strip of card on the bottom of the loom to make the weaving a little easier.

Step 2: String your loom!

String your loom by looping the yarn through the snips at each end of the loom starting at the bottom left, finishing at the top right.

Step 3: Time to weave!

Wrap a metre of yarn around your craft stick. Starting from the left edge, guide the yarn through the loom in an under-over pattern. (Under the first string, over the second etc.).

Step 4: Continue to weave!

When you finish a colour, take it to one edge of the loom. Leave a tail of 3cm and tie it to your new colour. Once finished, tie your yarn to the closest string.
