In this activity we’ll make a dough caterpillar and a corrugated board cocoon. Then we’ll make some bright butterfly wings to complete the transformation.

You will need:

  • Dough

  • Glue stick

  • Safety Scissors

  • Micador create it art pad

  • Micador Sizzle scissors

Step 1:

Cut a piece of Micador Create It Corrugated Board around 10cm square. Punch a hole in the middle of the top edge, then roll it into a tube and secure with some sticky tape

Step 2:

Using your scissors, make small snips around the base of the tube and fold the tabs in. You can secure this with some sticky tape too. That’s your cocoon done!

Step 3:

Using early stART First Dough, you can make the body of your caterpillar. Use any method you like – roll out one long piece, or make lots of little circles and join them together. Don’t forget to pop on some eyes.

Step 4:

Rest your caterpillar in its cocoon while we make a start on some wings. Fold a piece of Micador Create It Art Pad Colourfun® in half. Draw the shape of your wings, with the bottom of your wing shape along the folded edge.

Step 5:

Cut out your wing shape, open it up, and cut along the folded line. You should now have two separate wings that are the same shape. You can download the template provided if like the shape of the wings we made.

Step 6:

Use different coloured paper to decorate your wings. Cut out circles and other shapes you can use to paste down. Then, choose a coloured matchstick and use sticky tape to attach one onto the back of each wing.

Step 7:

Your caterpillar is now ready to be transformed! Gently take it out of its cocoon and stick in the beautiful wings you have made. To finish it off, snap a matchstick in half and pop them in for antennas. Wow – doesn’t it look amazing!
